The Armour Archive

Well my articulated breastplate is almost done, I need make fauld, attach straps and set rivets. One arm to finish and back plate too. then i'll make some spaulders. This is my first attempt on an articulated arm. This harness is all made from 316 stainless steel.

I think artemis is gonna be happy with those pics of the breastplate. the patterns are just the way they are. you only need a slight dish on upper plate t get a curve. You need to have a certain angle from piece to piece to have a curve and not a straight tube. this is quite easy to make for newbs (you avoid major shaping/planishing on a big surface) and you can get a unique design, a vertical curve and you can bend down really well (just check pics on the other album on my page for development). So thats my progress so far, it's hard to work because of school but I did alot on spring break. Any comments are welcomed

Cool! Spiffy! I like the articulation on the inside of the arms. Compression articulation? Nice job.

I want to make some arms soon. Where did you get the pattern for those? Might as well try that model as any.

That breastplate is too cool man.

I'm also diggin' the compression articulated arms. The only thing wrong is that the elbows are a little flat, but that's not such a big issue. At least they work. If that's your first pair, then I'd have to say you've done an excellent job.

Looking good dude. I ought to start on a breastplate for myself sometime soon... if it weren't for this mundane schoolwork.....

Very nice, how is the articulation on the arms with them on? Any bites?

Very nice work. The arms look like they have a good range of motion,as does the breast!

they are comfortable when I wear them and they give full range of motion. The only thing I would correct on a next pair is putting more lames in the compression articulation and have less curved lanes so that the center one would be more tiny. For the articulation just check at http://www.carmelemanuel.com you will see everything. I just made my own patterns from the pics there. I was limited on steel because this is made out of a 8 feet x 8 inch scrap sheet metal. i needed to fold back all edge and planish all over it to get it workable.

that is wonderful armor. I also love that website you have made. I have 2 questions about this if you dont mind. One, from where you see the rivet on the breastplate, how far up does that next piece come up from the one before and what shape is it. And second, Is that backplate finished if so could you explain it? Because the shape of it and the breastplate dont look right, how would they look on a person. THanks for your help

Well I'm overburden on homeworks at college so I didn't work on armour since I posted those pics.

To answer your question, the piecesare overlapping from 1/2 to 1 inche and they follow the V shape to avoid sheet metal wasting. I will take pictures of it soon and finish the bottom of the backplate. Its a 3 pieces articulated backplate.
