Making a Zweihander

The plan is to make a zweihander, out of spring steel , get it tempered and fight with it in combat.
Has any one done this? i have had a look around the net and seen a lot of dress swords but not swords for combat.
Has anyone on the list been lucky enough to hold one? does it flex due to its length? how thick is the base and tip?

I have a flamberge made from spring steel. It does not flex, however I would not consider fighting with it. The thing got so sharp when I was polishing it that it once cut my (then) girlriend while she was dusting near it.
