Tumbling Brig Plates

Post by Pietro da San Tebaldo »

If I'm cutting enormous numbers of small (3x7cm) plates for a brigandine coat, could those be tumbled in sand & oil like gem-stones to de-burr and sand them?

Aside from the sheer mass of the project, any advice on this? Filing the edges on each plate individually is pretty daunting.

Thanks.

Well brig plates don't need to be pretty the edges just need to be dull.

So rent out a cement mixer or borrow one etc. And put the plates in and let it go till they're deburred. Sand isn't really necessary but won't hurt either. I'd suggest something fine if you're using sand such as silica.

throw in a few pounds of bb pellits and that should give it a nice finish when you remove the burrs. also you can make our own tummbler and save on the rental of the cement mixer.
