Looking for....

Post by Uilleag »

Hey y'all,

I'm looking for a source for 14g. perforated steel plate, I need about 2 - 3 square feet, so I don't need to order a whole sheet, just looking to buy from someone who already has some, that is willing to sell some.

I also need to find someone with a welding rig, realitivly local to me, (I'm now in Wheaton, MD). I'd be willing to pay shop fees or whatever, and even to learn a little about welding.

I'm working on a V 5 / V 8 variation style helm. I want to reinforce the perf plate with steel and then weld that assembly to the back plate and oculars of the helm. This will give a flatter surface across the front of the helm which will make the maile hang a little cleaner.

Any help would be greatly appriciated!

Dan,

I have sources for perf-plate. I will look them up when I get home tonight.

The stuff is NOT cheap, keep that in mind.

Also, unless it is for design reasons, you should not have to reinforce the perf-plate. It is pretty sturdy stuff in the heavier gauges.

I am probably over engineering, but the perf plate will be covering my face, and I want to make sure that it doesn't collapse and crush anything. What I am envisioning is a plate the reaches from the bottom of the occular, roughly just below my nose, to 1 - 2 inches below my chin, and from the front of each ear. So you think that 12 - 14 g. perf plate can withstand that kind of force without reinforcing?

We can probably discuss this over the phone better, you have my number I think. I am not getting a very good visual from your description. I am a little slow, though so no surprise.

Here are the resources I mentioned:

Accurate Perforating - My preference as you can pick/make your own specs. If I remember correctly there was either a minimum order or a surcharge for smaller orders. It has been a few years, though. I may be hallucinating again.

Perforated Metals Plus

Ferguson Perforating

And... if that is not enough, here is the complete Thomas Registry for Perforated Steel:

Thomas Registry - Perforated Steel

That shoudl do it for you.
