Galvanized steel question

Post by sulla »

If I take my galvy steel maille hauberk (which is in various shades of gray due to construction in stages) and sew it into a heavy sack with some sharp sand and tumble it in a mixer or something similar, will this strip the galvy to the point where I am left with mild steel?

If I leave the shirt alone, would the wire eventually all darken to the same shade I wonder?

If you handle the maille enough, the oils from your body will darken the rings to a uniform (or at lest blended) shade of grey.

I've also heard that you can boil some potatos, and soak the maille in the water (after your meal) and it will darken the galvinization (sp?).
never tried it myself tho.

Yes, sand will remove the galv off your rings.
