hey guys, some pictures of demi gauntlets, the first to are of the old style the thrid is of my new style but i am having problems with hammer marks any help much apprecated

Yep, the page is gone! But I think I know what you mean. If the marks are all little round hammer marks, then you should get a planishing hammer and hammer them all flat. If there are a bunch of little dings or grooves, then your hammer, or anvil, is messed up, and should be polished till it's baby soft. If it's something else besides these two possibilities, then shoot me for giving you bad advice.

Take all the hard edges off your hammers & pollish them, Remember to overlap each blowby at least 1/3 of the hammer's face. Oh, and find one hammer that pleases you for flueting (one that'll give you the desired profile on the flute.) and shape it until you get what you want by testing it on some scrap as you go.

In the end, you can use a demmel or a fordam with a scotchbrite wheel to clean up any little dings.

What Ugo said. And you may try to use a hammer with a more flat face. What works for me (your results may vary) is a fairly flat faced raising hammer (rectangle on it's side). The top to bottom distance a little less than the \ side of the flute.

My first flutes looked alot like those, a broader hammer should help also.

Oh man Ugo, you just don't wanna know what my first flutes looked like. I think I planished them with a round faced embossing hammer! If you get drunk enough they look like I was trying to portray a day at the beach (confused waves rolling in). Unfortunately I don't drink much so mostly they just look like a first attempt. Now I think I'll go light the forge and put those poor pauldrons out of their misery!
