Well after much banging and reading I have finally managed to get the two halves of my visored sugar loaf together. I did notice one mistake and that was that I did not dish out one side the same as the other... but I will continue to try and get it as close as I can. And no I wasn't drinking the bottle of wine when I did it...lol. So I am open to critique on my first helm ... hope I did OK.

Thanks .... I would love to find one but in my area they are far and few between. I am just getting into the SCA and my local group is very small with limited resources. I have found that I am the only armourer *if I can call myself that* in the area, I have looked around but with no luck. I wish I had someone here that I could learn from but untill then I will just keep pestering everyone here on the AA for their opinions and information. Hope I don't drive you all too crazy.

I am located in Belleville .... it's about 2 hrs East of Toronto. I just hope the rest of the helm turns out even remotely similar to the one in the pattern archive.

I just happen to be making the same helm. I am about half way done, the visor still needs a lot of work and a lot of sanding buffing to do. About 25 hours into it another 10-20 it should be done. Its all 14 ga and about 7-8 lbs. Check out the wip pics

Its my 2nd sheet metal project.

Looking good BlackRain
Sir Edward the Red has a shop, I've only seen his spangenhelms but he seems to be doing decent work. He's in Kitchener-Waterloo if memory serves, haven't spent much time in Ontario so I don't know how close that is to Belleville.
Good luck,
~Wil

Nice work there Min. seems to be coming along nicely. I have my two bottom pieces sitting and shaped I just haven't had any time to put them on as of yet. I also have my visor welded together but I think I am going to have to cut it to get the fit proper then reweld it together again.
Thanks for the info on the armourer ... Kitchener is a bit of a ways away to do some apprenticing with him though. It would be a 4 hr ride to get there ....lol. Appreciate the notice though ... the more info I get the better.
Best Regards,
