New Greaves from AB Hammer Apprentices

Post by Sextus Maximus »

I just recieved my greaves from the Fed Ex guy and I am so glad they got in. When I opened the box, I was was impressed with the design and how well they were made. My only concern is that I will be using these for the SCA and the knees seem a bit shallow and not cover as much of the joint I hoped for. Anything I could possibly do to fix this or am I paranoid and they will cover fine. I have not yet strapped and padded them since if I do pad with say 1/2 inch they will be even more shallower?? Just a concern...

They are designed to be worn over a simple knee cop leather, steel, ect. this is to give the vision of historics and allows the freedom of a single cop underneath.

If you have any more questions please give me a call.

Ok that answers my question and it is easily solved since I have simple knees I can rivet it on. Thanks for the reply and they do look great.

AB said "worn over" not riveted on. I think keeping them separate is what allows the freedom of movement. If you rivet them together you will probably hurt that. You might want to check with him though to be sure though.

There should be no need to pad them, either.

The pieces you recieved in the mail may not need padding, but remember knee and elboe joints do require padding under the armour.

I am definitely going to pad the knees. As for riveting the knee cop to the greaves I am still wondering if I should do that. If I do not the metal knees will rub against the backing of the greaves and I foresee problems with that. Also I will have to figure out how to strap both the knees of the greaves and ths simple knees which seem alot of strapping... I had a digital camera but due to three year old sticky fingers I cannot seem to locate it :? I will take pictures of all my armor soon to show what I have been up to this entire year.
