Hey guys,
Wynne and I have been reading posts on this board for quite a while. We've been working on some new kits and we finally have some pics on the web we would like everyone to look at. Please take a look and give some constructive criticism. We are sorta new to building armour but we've been fighting SCA for a decade or so.
Many of the posts on this board have inspired us both to improve our armour's appearance in the lists. We welcome any comments, but remember we may see you on the field one day!

These are still works in progress, and still pretty far from completion. We hope to post more pictures the closer we get to completion. Let us know what you think of the peices we've been able to post, and any questions you may have about these peices.
Thanks in advance for your input...

Hey fellas,
It's Klaus (remember me?). Good pics. I'll be at the practice on the 20th. Due to the helmet I've just inherited (pseudo-viking ridge top) I may be putting my transitional on hold. See ya.

Man, that yellow and red is gonna be sharp. What thickness materials are you using and how are you coluring it.
Looks like I'm gonna have to redouble my efforts to armor up and come down there and get the crud beat out of me

We're supposed to be trying to get a regular fighter practice going up here again and hopefully I'll be able to start earning some bruises.
Keep up the excellent work guys.

Hey Klang,
The leather is treated 8 oz. veg-tanned coated with enamel paint. It seems to hold up fairly well, I have done a bunch of testing with it and it is the best that I could come up with. As the work progresses I'll update the pics.
Thanks to everyone who has posted. Your kind replies help keep me hopeful that this will look ok when it's finished.

My only criticism is the kabuto's dangly bits(dont remember teh technicale term at the moment). it looks like they should flare out a bit more, but well, wait for Effingham... hope i spelt that right.. he's the master.
and well, those greaves look like they'll be mighty sexy when they're finished

Thanks Tybolt,
The Greaves are 16g mild steel, I know its overkill, but thats the gauge I had on hand. They still need a bit of shaping, and the backs for them are still in the patterning stage, but I'll post more pics of them when I've had a chance to do a little more work to them.
When I took on this project I'm not sure I really knew what I was getting myself into. I don't think I'd try building an entire new kit, starting by building our own patterns, worring about the fit, and trying to have an eye for the details, all at the same time. My shop has bits and pieces of this kit in varying degrees of completion, all over it, but slowly and surely it seems to be comming together.
In addition to the scope of this project, we've been having to deal with the "learning curve", as this is th first time either of us have attempted anything of this scope. Thats not to say that we've had no experience, but with the exception to leather crafts, and a bit of maille work years and years ago, the majority of my attempts, including the gear I fight in now, have been, in my opinion, Sports armour, and sub par in appearance.
When we started we had only a very basic shop, "a wooden dish, a pipe to curl around, and a few ball pein, and claw hammers" so in addition to building the kits we had to gather several tools for the shop, but in the long run, I truly believe, this project will be worthwhile.
This is the first we've showed to anyone, other then our significant others, so its good to hear that we're on the right track.
Thanks again,
Carson Wynne
