A gratuitous DIG ME post (pics)

Here are the most recent photos of my harness. I would like to say it is a specific recreation of a documentable piece, but I cant. I am just trying to up the anti in my region. The harness is a very broad interpretation of a late roman cataphract, the helm is by our very own WMA and the hauberk is from Ziegler Metalgeweb in Germany.

Crown Tourney These were taken at the fall Eastern Crown Tourney, and are all very large, so be warned. You are gonna want a high speed connection for them. Comments are welcome.

Looks fantastic, very inspirational. I want to wear my mail shirt in combat, but I'm still playing around with what I'm going to wear underneath. What have you got under the hauberk? Doesn't look like much!

Brodir, Thanks. I wear a great mucking belt of 12oz leather, which covers from the short ribs to the hips, basically a hands span (thumbtip to pinkytip) My shoulders have abs plastic spaulders (heat formed) which point to the aketon/gambeson. Legs are covered by my mkI gamboised cuisses, which have abs splints in pockets and the knees are sort of cobbled together at this point. Essentially they are heat formed simple knees attached to standard knee pads. But I find them a little light weight for anything beyond stray shots bouncing off of my shield, trees etc...

Looks pretty good, actually, following the rules you are going by. I'd lose the boots and try to find something that resembles turnshoes, with added rubber/treaded soles if you wish. They should be more ankle-high, those look too obvious & are too tall. Behouman (sp?) makes some really good "SCA" style boots, Patty has a pair to ride in with rubber soles.

Bascot, Thanks. I have the leather in my shop to make a pair of turn shoes. Maybe this weekend will be the one after more years than I care to count lugging these supplies around with me. Those boots are left over from my Caidan days, when I first started I distinctly recall being told no blue jeans, no fatigues and no combat boots. So of course everyone wore engineers boots.

Looks very good Thaddeus,
You know, you should chat with Matthew Amt, I would be surprised if he doesn't have connections to get a pattern for a Late Roman military boot, to go with the rest of your impression.
Of course, if you are interested in turnshoes, Craig has a pattern. Then we could get you into hosen, doublet, jack or brigandine and sallet - then you would look truely magnificent!
