My 2nd try at making a helm. Its 14 ga. The 3rd should be a lot better, comments welcome.

Looks great, Minotaur! I'm worried to start a metal helmet, myself! I fear it will look too Godawful to see the light... But, we must all start somewhere, and your obvious talent is apparent from your second piece! Amazing!

How much would it be for a helm like that, or maybe like that? That helm has stolen my eyesight, i am barely typing this.

nice job. If you make another in that style, try moving the piviot point up and back. It will fit closer at the top, but still clear the back when raised. I did the same on my first helmet. The visor is closer at the top, but didn't clear the back of the helmet when raised. It tends to close itself. Keep at it your doing well.

Nice work.With a bit more sanding and polish you will have a very nice helm indeed.Looks like you have good shape on the top.I think if you put a crease down the center of the visor it would help the over all look.
Weilding inside a helm is fun.Yes? it looks pretty darn good I can't wait to see more work from you.You have the skills.

Two ideas probably worth considering if you are going to make a third attempt at that very pattern.

>Modify visor pivot point as mentioned by ONZ.
>Next time rivet the face plate to the neck plate
>Do NOT give a crease to the skull

With a little attention to planishing and sanding you will end up with a viored sugarloaf that is close to perfect. It´s in your hands, your talent is obvious.

I am very impressed with this helm, what pattern did you use?

My 1st try at a helm was the sallet by Rainald and it didnt come out so good. This 2nd one is the sugarloaf by Sinric. I would have to say the most important skill I picked up is patience. Its very hard to learn that things are not done just because you want them to be done. If I were to make another helm like this one I would do what Onz and Ivo said and move the piviot point. I would also try to make a 12 ga top, planish it more, add the cross, overlap the faceplate and drill the rivit holes, and put a better finish on it. I just got a grizzly 2x72 slack belt so the finish on the next one will be a lot better and more even. I have a cool plan for the cross but I dont know if I can grind it out or if I will have to file it (ugh). The next one I will pattern myself, just have to make up my mind what kind of helm to make.

Youv'e got a lot of talent and potential. Your off to a great start, stay at it and you'll be well known some day.
