You can get fiberglass at your local paint and body supply. I have not made a fiberglass shield but I would think tou could just make it from a thin plywood then coat it in fiberglass. My Dad coated the whole floor of my boat after reboilding with plywood and it is pretty much indistructable.

I made these 3 out of T6-6061 Al. right before Estrella. We painted 4 others to match for a total of 7 together on the field.
I painted faux woodgrain on the backs. The guy in the middle is Lord Athernaric and he is the Centurion for our Stormtrooper unit so his shield boss is painted white. All the others are black with a white star. 2 of the bosses are hand hammered 16 ga. that I made and one is used.

I made a fiberglass shield once many years ago. I found the glass by itself was to light, YMMV. It simply didn't have enough mass for me. I then covered a thin plywood blank with glass and resin coated a pre-painted canvas fabric right to the face of it. LOVED IT! The finish was shiney but it was still good after months of fighting.

Easy way. Layer fiberglass and resin over a light wood or cardboard blank. Glue fabric over it to make it look good.
The right way. Make a cardboard female mold the shape you want. Wax it good then lay whatever your face fabric is in the mold. Start laying resin and glass until you get the thickness and weight you want. You can always glue fabric over it after it's done. It's best, IMO, to layer some glass then a wood blank then more glass.

There are lots of nice shields I have seen but I really liked this shield. If I would have had cash that day I was over at your place I would have been doing some wheeling and dealing with him. :D

By the way Hal, how many guns would this cost *GRIN*
