New Leather demi gauntlets with full thumb

Post by Uilleag »

Here is a variation of my demi gauntlet pattern with full articulating thumbs. I set the thumb up on a slot rivet, so that it could articulate in and around, like a thumb moves.

Hey, those look cool, Uilleag! I'm suspecting they were an ordered pair, since they seem pretty big on your hands, there! :p

Cheers!

Actually they are a little small on my hands, but the bells are made to fit over vambraces, so they are overlarge and won't interfere with wrist movement.

Oh, I see. That makes sense. I might have to end up gettin' some demi-gauntlets from you, later on, if I don't find someone to give me some custom sized metal ones. They'd have to be hourglass, though, so, maybe you'll have an interesting new project, like those you're workin' on the new patterns for!

Cheers!

If you email me the measurements for the demi's that I have on the measurement charts' section I can work on developing the pattern to fit you, and then I will have a working pattern to develop other sizes off of.

Also please send me the v-brace/rerebrace and greave measurements. You can find all of that info on my measurement chart page of my web site.

Hmmm, maybe doin' the pattern for the gauntlets to fit me wouldn't be too bad an idea. I'd definitely get them sooner than I would metal ones from anyone, and they'd likely cost less for the quality of product and service;)

I'll email out all of the measurements in the next 30 minutes or so.

Cheers!

Got your measurements....couldn't resist, started playing with patterns....I think I figured out the hourglass shape, its in the angles you cut the sewn ends at. When you sew them together they will pull the leather into an hourglass shape, then its just a matter of shapping the metacarple with the knuckle ridges! I am phsyched about this project! I may have a new demi pattern and get rid of the old one!!!!

Now, that's very interesting! I've been thinking about contacting about just such a problem. You see I don't have adequate thumb protection for left hand when I use my center-grip shield.

I can hook you up. Shoot me an email and we can get that taken care of. Unless you will be at Gulf Wars, and we can discuss it there.

Are those cracks in the thumb?

They are surface cracks that accured while shaping, they do not extend into the leather at all.

I will not be at Gulf Wars, sadly. Right now, with new appliances and a new body armor, my finances are a little strained. I was just amazed that such a thing existed in the first place, and that anybody was willing to make it.

I'll be in touch.

how come the left one has an L on it but the right one does not have an R?

I would think the righ and left would get confused.

Because "L" is the client's intial and that's what he wanted on his demi gauntlet. Silly!
