Already owning TOMAR, does anyone familar with all 4 of the Best of the Hammer books on Raymond's site think they would still be worth getting? What are they like?
Thanks,

I have them on the shelf, last time I looked in them was several years ago. I think I paid $20 for the set of them, 10+ years ago, which I consider worth the money.
It's a collection of articles, some outdated by now, others still relevant and interesting. There's a whole lot I just glanced over, but plenty of things well worth the read.
One drawback is that the books are starting to fall apart, the quality of the glue is (was?) not made to last for decades.

The books can be bought here:
http://www.quietpress.com/Raymonds_Quie ... _Book.html
Current list price is $14.95 per volume.
I had the same issue described above in regards to the binding and solved it by taking the books down to FedEx Kinko's and having the re-bound with spiral spines and a plastic clear cover to protect the front and solid for the back. It was many years ago, but I do not remeber it costing that much at all.
As for the 'dated' information... yes, the 'Best of the Hammer' is old and out-of-print, but the information still has value.

I have them, from back when they were new. At the time, they represented pretty much the state of the art in armor knowledge found within the SCA. In terms of that historical information alone, they're worth looking at.
Some of the information in them is, no doubt, outdated. Understanding of how things should be done has changed (Heck, I used to own a copy of the corrazina in the Met - the one everyone trashes nowadays as a mishmashed reconstruction - made by Robert MacPherson).
OTOH, some of the information is still valid.
