Vervellies Spacing

I am pretty sure that is spelled wrong but I am too lazy to look it up.

Anyway, I am putting a scale aventail on my bascinet. I have vervellies and am planning on installing them on the helm this week.

What is a good spaceing for them? They are just going strait across the bottom and not going up like with a mail aventail. I thought it would look good but would be too much of a pain to try to get the scales to fit the pattern.

Thanks.

Speaking from a historical point of view, it will depend on what type of vervelle you are using.
The tube vervelles tended to be spaced further apart, having 3 going up the front on each side and between 7 and 9 going round the botom edge.
The rounded brass vervelles, especially in the later part of the 14th c, were spaced very closely.
What type are you using, and what time period are you aiming to represent? I believe Bohemian, late 14th, early 15th is most easily referenced.
