Oh, you should call it 'mail' instead of 'chain mail', it is the proper term, and it will make you sound more knowledgeable. :-)

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/trevor.barker/farisles/guilds/armour/mail.htm Section 4 holds everything you need for both a coif and a shirt, including sleeves. The simplest kind of sleeve to make with what you have so far is the Extended-Row/Open-Hang sleeve, which just runs your linkrows around the armholes of your shirt straight out, and down your arms. Only slightly more complicated is the 90-Degree/Closed-Hang sleeve, so named for the angle the linkrows of shoulder and sleeve intersect at. These are joined with a 90-degree join, illustrated in the Trevor Barker page above. The Extended-Row only has a few inches of 90-Degree join in each armpit; the 90-Degree has 90-degree join running all along the outside of each shoulder strap, quite like the shoulder seam on a T-shirt.

http://www.mailleartisans.org/articles/articledisplay.cgi?key=6844 A general look at several ways of making mailshirts. People tell me they've found it helpful.

With a shoulder section built as yours is (Barrel & Straps or European Unmodified Square as far as I can tell -- a top view would definitively show what we've got), I'd recommend filling in the corners of the neckhole a bit, to make the neckhole an octagonal shape, so it will be easier to link the coif with the shirt. You can put more rows in under the armpits, too; build everything up higher there, like about seven or eight linkrows. This will allow the sleeves to be lighter weight. You will end up with an armhole that looks like a capital D lying on its back. Are you going for long sleeves or short?

I think he's making a "hoodie" sweatshirt out of mail. In which case I say: ROCK ON! It's looking cool. And would be useful in gang fights if it was made of rivetted mail.

I like that...

Darn.... and I promised I wouldn't make another hauberk top again. That style mght actually sell for what I think my time is worth.

Maybe after I finish the two hwlms I have started, the three skull-caps I've been asked to do, and all of the jewelry I need for the next show, I will ponder it.
What a novel idea. I should write a book.
Oh, wait...
