I am helping clean out a shop and I have been given about 4 bags of iron sand to do with what I want. SO what is it used for?

Thanks

smelting

You obviuosly need a smelting furnace to convert it to iron. They're not too hard to build, and loads of fun...go for it!

Well first we need to know what you have; blasting medium may be steel in small size "pellets". Besides blasting it is also used in "mosaic demascus" by knifemakers.

Smelters usually call magnatite sand "Iron Sand" and it can be smelted in a bloomery (NE or Japanese) for making your own wrought iron.

Humm it is hard to say at just guessing as the person who used to have it did smelting, sand blasting, and demascus knifes. In fact I have one from him. It might be interesting to play with the smelting idea.

Thanks
