Hey! Awesome fabric supplier!

Post by Guest »

I was browsing the net for some linen and wool for a gambeson and maybe a cloak, and I came across this site:

http://www.carolinacalicoes.com/

They seemed to be involved already with re-enactment stuff, so I called the number to find out some more info on the fabrics. I spoke with the owner, Wade Reynolds. Turns out this guy can get near ANYTHING that you want, for some really REALLY good prices. 100% wool, 60" wide is between $8-$12 a yard (cheapest I've ever seen), and 100% linens run around $4-$5. He has a lot more than that, and a lot more than is pictured, and sends samples of anything you're interested in. He's also at pennsic! I'm very pleased with the service and prices of Carolina Calicoes, and I'd reccomend everyone to them. They have my kudos.

The wools look good.

I went to "linen" and it said $10/yard. For linen, I buy from http://www.fabrics-store.com

I'm lucky. Here in Los Angeles we have a Fashion District near downtown where it's easy to find good quality linen for $3 to $4 a yard, and good wool can often be found for $6 to $8. I buy wool at a local discounter for $4.

If you scroll down it says:

So that should explain his knowledge of the need of reenactors

I vote with Steve for linen, http://www.fabrics-store.com

for wool, try the Washougal factory outlet of Pendleton Mills, 60" metton for $5 a yard. Don't have URL handy but it's worth finding. I buy 70+ yards a year from them.

Forgive the ignorance, but the "ounce-weight" of fabric is listed per square yard, correct? (As opposed to leather, which is ounces per square foot, if I recall.)
