Rust prevention question for Mandrake I-33s

I have just received my pair of 14" I-33 Buckler from Mandrake Armory. (Just in time for a Pas this weekend!) They came well oiled and wrapped to prevent rusting in shipment.

I have taken the oil off it was shipped with Goo-Gone, since they were way to slimy to handle if I left it on.

My question is, what recommendations do folks have for protecting these mild steel bucklers to keep them from rusting?

I know that a good drying followed by a light oil/WD40 spray before putting them away in a dry place after each use works. But, I need to be realistic with myself. They are going to be for SCA fighting, have water/sweat spilled on them, dropped in the wet grass and thrown in an armor bag.

Any suggestions for coatings/care under these conditions that may help reduce the rust/polishing factors are greatly appreciated.

Just keep ontop of the surface rust with a fine sand paper, and lightly oil the surface.

Personally, I would 1 year turtlewax the whole thing. Do two coats after a thorough cleaning and buffing (And by clean, I mean acetate clean - wax works better)

Works wonders on the non- stainless I have used it on.

you could paint it

i had a woman throm mine out of my seat under my pavillion that she sat in while i was fighting without asking or being invited and left ciggeretts all over.

She left it in the rain for about 2 hours and wondered why i was mad. It's still brown in spots.
