Spectacled Spangen

Post by mercenary »

Oh, Halberds, I need your help!

Where can I find a pattern for a spangenhelm with specs, sorta like Gjermundbu, or perhaps Eowyn's helm?

I need it wuick, because my friend's b-day is the 2nd of July, and that's his present. (He's joining Dagorhir, and he's gonna be a viking.)

Any help is already thanked for. (Forever.)

It will go quicker in 18ga. and be lighter to wear, if not for combat.

Best of luck on it. Now you realize you owe us a pic of your finished helm....

Oh, and thanks for the pattern. The eyes were all I really needed.

And do you know how hard it is to make a helm for someone who doesn't know from whom you have to get a head measurement?

Look at his hat and add enough for an arming cap and coif...

Try his hat on yourself and feel the difference.
Ask to see what your hat looks like on him.

"Would you try on my hat so I can see if it looks dorkie on me"

I don't know.... you will come up with something.

Get a disposible camara, take lots of pics, get it develpped in a disc format, select the best one and convert it to a .jpg 400 pixels.... Then post it using the attached pic function of this forum.

You know we like to see pics.... I think this is what makes the forum work so well.

I like pics too. That's what I live for...

Actually, the way I figured out the size of his head, seeing as I have no hats, and neither does he, was to take my home-made calipers, and "show them off" to him, by measuring his head. ( )

And I put my crown on his head. And it fit with a little too much room, so I'm making the helm with two inches extra. (Exactly the same size as my head, incidentally.)

Here we go, and so quick, too! It was easy!

That's my sister wearing it, and the other helmet in front is me. (I'm a hobbit.)

I was cursing.... Damn Damn Damn... how do these guys make helms so fast... Then I did a left click and backspace and came up with this:
