That statue, while possibly of an armor of the Edo period, is most likely completely of an artist's interpretation.

The legs and feet are misinterpreted or stylized, as is the loin panel. Same with the inside of the elbows and the vambraces. It looks fairly decent (if late-period) otherwise.
It's up to you now.

Chris G. wrote:How good is the coverage on the top of the knee when it is bent? It looks like you have a piece that stays in contact, but I can't see it too well because of the other parts of the armour.

A very fine job by the way.

Chris,

I'm sorry, my lady finished boxing these up, getting them ready to ship, before I could get another pic.

This show the floating knee cop fully covering the top of the knee while bent. The greave covers some of the view, but you can see the floating cop on the side of the raised knee. On the lower leg, you can just see the top of the floating cop. It covers the patella, or knee cap, with the rest of the greave covers the outside points of the knee.

Oh, dear GOD my EYES!!!!

That statue is total crap. It has nothing to do with real armour.

Excuse me -- I have to go and drive the porcelain bus.

I have a few figures and love collecting different types of warriors in full Armour but I would like to start collecting only those in correct period Armour and eventually phase out the others. Do you know where I might find them in correct period attire?
Thanks, David

I can't tell you the best place to find statuettes, but purusing some books with good detail pics will help you tell the accurate from not so accurate.

Osprey books have lots of good illustrations, but they aren't always the most accurate.....

Sorry I can't be of more help than that, my research on Japanese armour consists in what clients have sent me and the rudimentary research I have done on my own for basic design.

Don't worry -- you didn't offend me. The guy who made the statue did. ;)

Hey! I wrote four of those. Razz

Four that I'd suggest everyone stay away from... Just kidding! I only jest because it seems many of your reviews get comments almost repremanding you because of your in-depth research on armor! But, that's the way I like it..! I actually need to pick them all up, and then ship them over to you, Eff', to have them all autographed! :D

Dan, I'm glad you're doin' the whole kit! Can't wait to see it all completed!

I just got my suneate, and I must say that they are above and beyond my wildest expectations! They fit perfectly, and that integrated floating knee cop is pure genius! The movement restriction is next to nonexistant, and they're comfortable as hell!

What really surprised me was just how hard they turned out, they're still flexible...but damn, they can take a hit!

A little neutral polish and these babies will be stellar!

I'll get pictures up tomorrow!
