 Here is a pic of my wife this weekend trying her hand at dishing. She is working on a shield boss for my new Roman shield.

Your armourer should wear ear protection and at least one glove.
I would like to have a shop like that!

Who needs a power hammer when you have Pippi Longstocking to hammer for you. ;)

I agree protecting your hearing is important. But maybe that isn't as
much of a concern to her as the giant ball protruding from the back of her head  :D

BTW that boss looks very nice so far.

So is that boss bolted into the dishing form?

Shoot, if I could get my girlfriend to make armour as well as cook and clean...wow...that would be great!

Blahahahahahah! That was funny! Made me laugh.

She's actually quite cute. But the Pippi Longstocking thing cracked me up.

Dishing sitting down . . . You can do that? My life has been a lie. :(

The only problem is if she armors, your "alone time" goes away quite quickly. :)

Of course I was just making a reference to the braids. Your lady is much cuter than Pipi. :)

PS: Glad you likes it Steve. :D What's Pippi as a name by the way? Means pee in French.

dude that's awesome... my wife just looks at this stuff with very little tolerence on her face :(

And sensible shoes, preferably steel-toed safety boots/shoes, anything but sandals.

Since she's sitting down like that, it's not a big deal, but even so, there's the chance the piece might slip out of her hand when she's walking somewhere with it.

Come on Guys!!

"Think" every maried armourer has his own personal armourer.
You know! they beat on you, so you go make armour.
They beat on armour or the armourer. No difference to them, it still gets the work done.

I don't know about her but if I did any serious dishing sitting in that position my back wouldn't move the next day and if I tried to swing a hammer repeatedly with power from that position I'd blow out my elbow...

But if she can generate power with poor body position and awkward hammer position, and in her left hand to boot, take away the armor give her a rattan stick and you'll be the consort of "Queen by her own hand" in no time. :)

Thanks for the complements and advice. I am just happy that I have a lovely wife that is interested in my hobbies, and willing to participate. For those that asked, yes that is a form for dishing shield bosses, specifically for Roman shields or ones with a curve. Basically its a piece of thick walled 5.5 inch pipe welded to a 3/4 inch plate and the top is curved with a 6 inch lip all around so you can bolt the plate to it, while you work. With it being bolted down it takes all the vibration and jarring away. Also it reduces noise drastically, so no real need for hearing protection.

Yes there is! *Always* wear the hearing protection---keeps bugs out of your ear in summer and keeps your ears warm in winter, allows you to crank up the music
and even low level impact sounds can degrade your upper ranges!!!

Thomas---I have 3-4 pair hanging by the shop door and always buy them when I see them at the fleamarkets for $1
