Time? Place? Raw material of preference? Purpose?

I actually made some the other day. I had used 16d mails for my rivets when I made my arms so I had a lot of cut off long pieces. I just marked off the measurements for my buckle dimensions along the nail and bent them into a square with large vise grips and my vise. I then tack welded the ends together were they'll meet under the strap. I then took another nail and flattented it abit to make the tang and clamped it to the front of the buckle and rolled the other end around the welded section to make the pivot. I then took the back of my smallest ball-pein and roughed the surface of the buckle up to give it a hammer made look. I made sure to keep the inner surface were the leather will ride smooth to keep from eating up my straps. Image

In a month or so, I should have stout pointed d-shape buckles for 3/4" and 1" wide straps in-stock and available. They will be cast in brass and I hope to be able to sell them for a very competitive price. These will be frame buckles without an attachment plate.

I am currently doing research & sculpting. And the first big order from my new foundry is in process and due in a few weeks. The order will include my trefoil buckles, the associated chapes, trefoil eyelet studs, small rosette studs (eyelet & solid), and the new triparite double-ended stud (I just HAVE to think of a better name for that one! Image ).
