Yet another anvil quest

Post by AngusGunn »

In my long and arduous quest for a useable anvil I have come across some at grizzly.com. Has Anyone used these? Are they worth it or are they scrap? Thanks in advance.

Angus.

These are cast iron. I wouldnt use one for blacksmithing, but they might be ok for some lighter uses. I personally have problems with the shape, too. The horn in particular is way to flat on top. The best deal is probably the 55 lb one and you could use it to peen rivits, do light work, travel to demos with something that looks like a modern anvil, etc. Otherwise, I'd just use a heavy plate of steel for a flat surface to pound on.

Other good options include using it as a pattern weight on windy days, using it as a designer doorstop for the shop, dropping from windows, and an old game involving gun powder and anvils (called blowing the anvil? blasting the anvil?...)

Yep, that's kind of what I figured. Thanks.
