BEG: Russeted Mail? Plus kudos.

Kudos to Alail/Scott, and to Matt up in the frozen north... they are really good guys to deal with. Matt's wife made me these really cool padded cuisses. We had a slight oops which was nobody's fault, and they made a generous offer to adjust for it.

Scott let me buy his mail shirt off of him (Hi Scott, can't find your email...), since he has a bad back and can't wear it.

But it's "russeted..." What does that mean, exactly, besides "throws around so many rust stains that my wife doesn't want it in the apartment?" The surviving magyar mail I know of is blackened: any reason I shouldn't seal away the iron by just tossing a bunch of oil on it and haivng a chainmail bbq in my friend's backyard?
