halloween armour

Post by knitebee »

A week and a half before halloween my 11yr daughter begged me for armour for a girlscout costume party. Here is what I came up with in short order.
Sorry the shot is grainy my camera didn't like to focus in the dark

picture of the breastplate (stuffed with a pillow to get it to hold still for the photo)

Everything including the clothes and shoes was done in little over a week.

Brian,

Looks like alot of fun and in a weeks time turned out quite nice as well. She must have really enjoyed the armour it would seem.
I remember telling my parents a few days before halloween I wanted to be a ghostbuster. MY dad tore all sorts of things apart and I ended up with a very spiffy protonpack. The best part was when my younger brother saw and a day before said "me too." Halloween...

Brian, thats some good work for a week. I only wish I could get a small portion of theat done in a weeks time.
Between the menacing looking sword and the very menacing expression on her face, the guys better think a second time with this young lady. Never mind Dad, she looks to be able to take care of herself.

Cool! Are you going to add more pieces to it?

Richard
Is the SCA a better place for having you in it? If not, what are you doing there?

Rishard, I've been debating if I should make more pieces or not. I'm not going to do anything for a week and catch up on my sleep fromw hats done so far then I really need to clean out the garage before doing any more. By that time my daughter may have grown enough that whats done wont fit anymore. On the other hand a full suit would make one hell of a display. and for some reason I'm sorely tepmted  to try to raise a sallet to go with it.

Sagebowman, Think she's scarry with the sword (my hand-n-half Atrim) you should have seen her with the halberd (photos didn't turn out  ) With her personality the first boy that ever tries to grab her arse is going to have a broken arm before he has a chance to think twice about it. Most of the guys in our group are allready dreading the day she's old enough to fight.

RandallMoffett, Thats what dads are for isn't it.

All the armour was done in 20g mild steel, which in many ways is harder to do than with thicker gauge. The arming coat is two layers of linen with all visable seams hand stitched and fabric self buttons. Linen braies, and I cheated on teh chausses and used cotton there (coudlnt find where I put the rest of the brown wool). Turn shoes where made with some chrome tanned leather with shoe goo run on the inside of the seams so they are farely water proof.

thanks all for the complements. there are some flaws from rushing this (the arm hole rolls are S#!%%Y but hey you can only do so much in such a short time).
