I have a black bar grill pembridge style helm that is flat black in color. I wondered what sort if any type of painted decoration would be appropriate for it.
Thanks,

For contemporary pictures of the decoration on helmets of this gebneral type, look at the Maciejowski Bible (c. 1250 AD) at
http://www.keesn.nl/mac/mac_en.htm and at various pictures at
http://www.callisto.si.usherb.ca/~croisade/IMAGES/Webimages.htm - particularly
http://www.callisto.si.usherb.ca/~croisade/IMAGES/Godefroi.jpg and
http://www.callisto.si.usherb.ca/~croisade/IMAGES/Antioche.jpg and
http://www.callisto.si.usherb.ca/~croisade/IMAGES/Antioche2.jpg and
http://www.callisto.si.usherb.ca/~croisade/IMAGES/Lance.jpgProbably the Maciejowski Bible is clearest (as usual), butn the others give an idea of the "variations on a theme" that were current.
