Beautiful Turkish armour - pics

Post by Egfroth »

I posted this earlier on a separate thread, but I think it go sort of lost, so I want to share it with you. It's at http://www.geocities.com/egfroth1/Goldmail.html - It's in the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul. didn't copy down the label, but I believe it to be the armour of a 16th century Ottoman Sultan. Pretty.

I'll bet that gold would stop a determined longsword thrust!

Hey Bascot - I bet if you could have afforded to wear that armour you could have afforded to have not only that gold but a few hundred men between you and the nearest determined longsword thrust! Image

Obviously that armor was never meant to be fought in. I don't care how rich you are, you aren't going to inset gems into the likliest places on your armor to receive sword strokes!
You get hit a few times...even if you are unhurt, the battle cost you fifty grand (or the period equivalent) in lost gemstones!

Nevertheless....wow...I sure wouldn't mid having that particular piece.
