Mongol Armour P0rn

Post by ARMOURER ERIC »

Howdy all,

Here is a picture of the project I'm currently completing. As most know, I went full time as an armourer back in late October, I'm still plodding through my backlog and have killed off about 40% of it, I expect it to be done by mid January, along with this, I've managed to build about $500 in stock per week and expect to have a big sale right after Christmans. Anyway, the next project to go out the door is this Mongolian styled helm for Shan Hayes of Aztek, NM. It should be used in a tourney December 17. It is made form a 13GA mild steel bowl with 14GA cheeks, the slats are 1/8" stainless and the trim is 18GA stainless. All the mild steel has been heat blackened. The eyelet on the top was a specific client request but I made it removable by welding a nut inside the top cap. If it gets damaged, any hardware store carries it. Upon completion, I'll have some better photos taken with the intent of finally rotating out that fluted close helm on my homepage. My next custom projects going out are a Greek for a client in Bakersfield, splinted arms and legs with stainless joints for another client in Bakersfield to go out within the next 2 weeks.

I think I've got to come down to Ramona sometime and just help you keep tidy around the shop for a couple of days, and learn what I can during the process! Your skills are awesome, and that helmet is a testimony of that, sir!

Cheers!

Sweet hat, Eric. Nice to see you strutting some cool custom stuff above and beyond your sturdy "meat & potatoes" munition gear. Bravo!

Since very few armourers ar offering anything close to this, you could easily corner this niche of the market.

Cheers,
Tim

Sweet looking hat!! I really like your solution for the cheek plates. It gives the impression of scales dangling from the brim. All it needs now is a groady fur turban ;-)

I have something similar in the works. Its meant to top of a late roman infantry rig. I am working on the nasal, back plate, cheek plates and grill.
