i have tried to go for a fifteenth century-ish sort of italian
i left it un-shiny because of two reasons, one because i cant be botherd hand sanding my armour, and two i am lazy. There are a few things I have left to do like make some more faulds, tasets, sabutons, greves, gauntlets and a back plate. i have a few questions the main one i need answering is what helm would go well with this?

15th century-ish, and Italian? Two choices, really, an elmetto (armet), or a sallet and bevor for an export suit.

id love to do a sallet but i cant see a sallet working without a bevor and i just cant figure out how to get the bevor to attach to the breastplate when the strap that is holding the bottom half of the breastplate up, is in the way. thoughts, comments, help, all needed and appreciated

what other choices are there for about that time period other than italian?
please post pics

thanks

you could go with a T-faced Barbute

That would go with a less complete suit than this is going to be. I vote for an armet, although a sallet would be cool too.

I thought the bevor was supposed to sit beneath the breastplate, so a glancing blade thrust wouldn't slide up, underneath, and into the throat.

I could be wrong tho - I'm sure it was worn both ways. Either way, I wouldn't think the bevor would need to be so long in the front that it gets tangled up with that buckle in the front. Wiser folks around here may correct me.

A camailed bascinet would be consistent with those very plain fans, which you will probably want to dish, curve, or crease to make them resistant to bending, but inconsistent with those separate spaudlers which are like a very early 15th century type. I'd vote for a barbute too, with a safety gorget, perhaps done up as a standard-of-mail.

Bevors AFAIK were worn both inside and out, doubtless for the exact reasons you cite: if it doesn't work one way, what about the other?
