My kit has been visually challenged due to the black plastic gaunts which finally split in half forcing me to deal with the issue, so i took a little time away from a early cav helm and aventail spangen to finally make myself some gauntlets.
Since damaging my shoulder ive been pretty much a pole fighter so decent gaunts are important.

Those are beautiful! I may play with the shaping of my lames to match this design....I wonder how they will turn out.

Did you make these from the pieces Cet sent you? If so then please tell me what you augmented or changed and what worked for you, I always love to see modifications to the guantlet pattern I have.

I wont be at Gulf,
Untill i can decrease the insane amount of time i spent on these i wont be offering any for sale, not untill im familliar enough with the process, learning makes for slow work.
Sir Kelson, yes these are from that pattern i got from Cet, along with a pic of yours, and my memory of handling them at last years birka, maybe it may have been the year befor actually as i think yours were pretty new.
As for changes lets see, used a diff cuff, folded the front over, put in a sharp and more angled area on the back of each lame that wraps around the edge, this looks cool but makes the fitting of the lames a pain in the ass. Did not have a thumb pattern so i just made one up.
The actual thumb works well and articulates nicely, but its a little restrictive where it joins the actual gauntlet i think i did not angle the thumb area on the metacarpal plate enough, but maybe not, ive not realy worn or handled many gauntlets other than very generic sca clamshells, maybe im just being fussy as they grip and conform to my pole handle nicely.
I curved the thumb area of the metacarpal plate inward a little, it makes for a smooth profile when gripping the weapon, but keeps me from bending my thumb back as much as id like, it does not interfear with using a weapon at all, and ill never be in danger of hyperextending my thumb thats for sure.
I also welded the cuff shut instead of overlapping and riviting, mostly because the mig was on and handy
I just finnished strapping them and riviting in the gloves and will give them a workout fairly soon, ill likely use them for awhile untill i get some time to try them again, once ive ironed out the build process some ill make a pair from 1050, and will tweek the thumb some.
Will you be at Birka? Id love to see yours and see the range of motion in regards to the thumb.
In ragrds to what worked well, the pattern was great, other than my learning curve things went fine
