Does anyone know of any century of armour ( effigies/ literature/ coal rubbings) that incorporated a fixed gorget to the breastplate and a fixed collar defense for the neck? The shape I guess would be like a sized-down bevor affixed to the body armour. I know it's fantasy armour, but if anyone remembers the Urik-hai from LOTR, some of them had the front throat guard. I thought it looked a rather neat addition.

There were armors which incorporated bevors bolted to the bp, in the 15th/16thC's, so it isn't limited to fantasy armor. The Vienna catalogs show 3 examples from Braunschweig c1555-65 (from memory, I don't have the books), as well as some late 15thC examples (I think).

As well i remember someone posting pics of a lamnellar harness a while back that had a tall collar built in to it, i think it was a siberian example, but i'm really not sure.

'Bolted' was probably the wrong choice of words. They were mostly attached by having a mating hole to match a staple on the bp, rather like the staples that held on removable lance rests.

been away from the forums a long time. I have effigies in a book of mine showing very early fourteenth century fixed gorgets as well as basinets that almost seem to attach directly to the breastplates with some sort of sliding rivet mechanism if that makes sense? Totally pre-ren-bevor. The author's text(can't remember his name off hand but the book is a classic) notes that the innovation was made to relieve the extreme neck stress suffered from the basinet, and camimaille weight. I'll try to get photos for you soon.
