Polish/Russian helm help

I am looking for some help finding someone who can make a period Polish helm from ca. 1200, or a russian one from the same time. I have had a devil of a time tracking down polish helms from this time, and I suspect they used whatever everyone else in the region used with possible differences in ornamentation. Or I can use a russian one like the one on the cover of Osprey Books' Armies of Medieval Russia 750-1250 . I was going to include the link but as of right now the site is down. Any help appreciated.

wish I could help...I'm actually interested in this topic too. 1250 Poland. Hope my reply bumps the post where it will be noticed.

While I'm not especially familiar with the region/period youyr looking at I've spoken with a few customers interested in Russian/ Central Asian helms who've asked me about what are essentialy "onion domed" helms of either one piece or spagen construction. Does this sound like what you're looking for? If so e-mail me and I'll send you pics of a finished helm with this type of skull along with a pricing/options list.

Regards

Dave

Yep, the onion dome one is the one I'm looking for. Here's a link, then click on the "see larger image" link. Both men are wearing them.

Thanks Warren! You've got it right. I could get a regular bascinet, but I really want to look different.

You might try Rick Orli's XVIIc Polish site:

I know it's not your time period, but there are many links from his page some of which may be useful to you.

Oh, and I'd like to have a horsehair...umm..."tail"?...attached to the knob at the top of the dome.

What kind of price would I be looking at for an SCA legal helm in the link just above this post?
