An Tir armour question

In reading this thread:

http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/Forum3/HTML/002306.html

I came to the conclusion that An Tir has a requirement for the fans on the cops of armour. I don't know if it's just elbows, just knees or both. I downloaded the An Tir fighters handbook but couldn't find anything about the fans. Can someone point me to the rules in question? Referencing a page in an An Tir rule book would be appreciated.

I'm not in doubt that the rule exists...I have no way to know other than the printed word, and it doens't affect my life. I've just been having a lot of "societal armour standards" discussions lately and this possible rule intrigues me...I want to read more about it. Thanks!

While not AnTir, the Middle also requires the "inner fan" or equivalent.

It is a consequence of the armour inspection requiements (quoted from the latest Midrealm Armoured Combat Marshal's Handbook):

Leg Armour: Check that the front and sides of the knees are covered...

Arm Armour: Check that the point and sides of each elbow are covered...

This is what the AnTir Book of Combat has to say on page 29

7. Arm Armor:
a) The elbow point and bones at either side of the elbow joint must be covered by a rigid
material underlain by at least ¼ inch (6 mm) of resilient padding or closed-cell foam,
or by an approved equivalent. This armor shall be attached in such a way that the
elbow remains covered during combat.

You can download a copy of the ABC here: http://www.wastekeep.org/documents/abcs.pdf

Hope that helps,

Greetings,

If your cop covers the points on your elbow or knee, you should be fine. If a marshall can touch the side's of your knee and elbow without reaching inside of the cop you need some improvment. A simple cop will/should suffice < up to the marshall that is > if they cannot directly touch thoes said area's. If the cop's are properly sized, you should be set.

Ok...it's no different than anywhere else. I was misreading it the first time as a very strange thing. Image
