Here is what 50$ of material and a little cutting and welding produced. Small, 6 tons but enough for what I need.

That is a great accomplishment! Did you design that from scratch? Great shop tool. What are you pressing armour-wise? Or is this just for general work?

Looks good, I like it. How is your sander coming along?

Thanks, made it from scratch looking at available models online. Not very complicated. I will post the plans on my website later if you guys want. My primary need is to press fit bearings in my idler wheel for the belt sander I am building. I painted it so it looks nice. Who said tools have to be ugly.

Well, lost the motor so I had to buy a new one and gave up un the drive wheel and ordered one from Beaumont. Now I only need to turn an idler wheel and buy the steel and I am good to go. That usually means another six months.
I will post results as soon as I can.

For $60 and no cutting or welding you can get this

or 70 for this one

So heads up for anyone that would want something like this (I bet they go on sale for less also). Sometimes it just doesnt pay to DIY. That said I also built a press and think they are great. Just to bad mine bent befor I got to make any real armour with it.

Minotaur, I agree that it may not be that big of a saving but it's the right size for my small shop and I live on Quebec Canada. No Horror Fright stores here. 60$ US is about 75$ Canadian, plus a arm and a leg shipping, taxes, custom fees.
And making your tools is fun.

I didnt think about that. Very good points Pad. Still for us lazys in U.S., in this case its very hard to beat HF.

Believe me, if we had something similar to HF close to here, my laziness would increase greatly.

Matt, Princess Auto is ok, there is also Busy Bee where I bought some stuff. Sadly they are all in Ontario, nothing in Québec.

And they do not have as much stuff as HF and at HF prices. I was even surprised of the price they charge for some housename brand stuff.
