Well, it looks like I may be able to make it after all. I won't be able to go to CA for the arrival of the grand baby, so I might as well be up there pounding some steel! I'll look at getting some tentage or maybe just sleeping in the wagon.

I have a 3-room tent we could set up. Sleeps about 8-10.

Thanks for the offer, but car is less hassle and probably more comfortable. Remember I have the stationwagon. Drop the back seats flat and it's not a bad set up. If I can make it I'll do that. It is looking quite likely. National Guard is the only possible hickup at this time.

You really do have a 'special' sense of humor. I'm planning on having my new and improved gauntlet pattern done by armor in time. I'll bring it on down if anyone is interested.

I don't know how I missed this comment! That would be absolutely awesome! What amp requirements does it have? I'm running a dedicated 30A line to the shop, but probably won't have it done by the event. The shared 20 A through 200' of extension cord is still the power supply in current use.

I will see what I can do. for I have been wanting to come down for awile and that date is possible.

I also plan to be at the Lysts on June 10th, hopefully with some new hardened leather gear. I look forward to seeing you there!

I plan to day-trip the armour-in on Saturday but might stay for Sunday if there is still indoor crash space available. I could bring materials for a leather armour shaping/hardening/painting demo if there is interest.

Would that be the gauntlet pattern you were working on at the last armour-in? I would be interested in getting a copy and giving it a try. I will be working on a project this time intead of only driving sir Gaston around. Me and my lady plan to attend the Lysts on Saturday also, hope to see you and Maelgwyn there also.

Saw a "truck camper" today with a bed, shower, and a/c. fairly little but just fits in the back of your truck. might get it before the armour-in.

No problem, we have a few exterior jacks. You'll need ~50' of extension cord.

Yes, that's 120V. I have 220V available also (dryer plug) if it's pre-wired for that. I have a medium sized air-compressor. We can set up these on the back patio to avoid line-losses (my compressor trips the breaker out in the shop!)

We have a metal caster coming in from D/FW, who promises that even I can learn to cast something. Looks to be a fair number coming in with a variety of talent so it should be a nice time. Hopefully the weather will be nice as well. We seem to alternate between 98* and four inches of rain every few days! On the bright side, everything is green with no dust. bad side, everything is muggy and full of mosquitoes! I'll spray for those Thursday night, though.

Well I was rushed to the hospital drowning in my own blood last night...lol
Thought I had a nosebleed only it was coming out like a garden hose and wouldnt stop.
They had to cut up into my sinuses to carterize a artery bleed of some kind. The Doc said the whole thing is most likely stress caused. My g/f was sitting there telling him i work 7 days a week 12 hours a day and dont get paid..hahaha. I cant say it was the only prescription cause he has me on a bunch of crap, but the main thing he said was take some time off sporadically. So count me in for sure...
They are bolting that camper thing down to my dually as we speak.
Ive always wanted to come to one of these things to see what they are about and learn something, and since i learned completely on my own, i might even have a trick or something to share.
Im not bringing a project myself, and Id enjoy helping someone with theirs if i have knowledge in that area.

Alexis- I'd love to copy your gauntlet pattern. I was really impressed with the work you were doing on it last year. Is there something you'd like in return? Maybe a case of beer?
The Lysts at Castleton event looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. If anyone needs to spiff up their gear, make shields or crests for it, I'll be opening my shop up on the 8th for that purpose.
It's starting to look like Barnet, Maelgwyn are carpooling out for Saturday. Kat, are you still interested in riding out to Bryan with us? I've got a van, so there's tons of room.

Cool, glad you could make it. I'll keep yellow hot pokers handy by the furnaces in case we need emergency cauterizations!

Now I almost hope there's a nose bleed at the armour in, but I'm sure hoping it's not my nose!

Well....there are some interesting stories to tell involving lots of alcohol, three partial suits of armour, four combatants and 2 am fighting.

A wee bit of blood was spilt that evening.

I'll be bringing my old gauntlet pattern and hopefully my new and improved one. Looking forward to seeing everyone. The plan is to arrive sometime friday night, but still up in the air on scheduling. Meanwhile, still need to finish the new chanfron so at least the horse gets some new armor for the Lysts.

Verminaard, it'll be good to see you again. I will be going and I may be bringing TWO newbies. We'll see if they actually can make it. Both are complete novices to armouring and would like to learn. I'll have some steel for them to use and we can get them started on a simple pauldron or vambrace pattern.

Actually, so as not to miss the scrapyard scrounge, I will more likely go myself on Friday. I have no steel and will want to acquire some; I want to try to make a pair of bazubands at the very least.

Scrapyard is closed Saturdays, but lowes/home depot have small sheets of 16 and 14 ga steel. Check your local stores. I'll pick up some 16 ga at the yard for persons to use for small projects like thatif you don't mind cleaning a bit of rust off the metal.

Interesting insect in the shop last night. Hopefully these will die off with the fumigation next week! It was a little wasp thingy...I thought it was just some sort of mayfly or stonefly...that got into my shirt while I was heat treating some armour last night. It started with a little burn, then progressed to an agonizing stinging pain. It stung me all the way down the side as it fell out of my shirt. It left little blood blisters where I was stung, caused localized swelling, and caused muscle aches down my side, the arm and across the shoulder area. Headaches all night long and slight muscle aches a bit today. I'll have to try and find the corpse and get an ID on it.

For those allergic to bee/wasp stings...we have lots and lots of paper wasps, an underground yellowjacket nest in the front yard, yellowjacket nest buried under old wood and aluminum scrap in my shop ( I was quite suprised to find this!!!), velvet ants, fire ants and gazillions of digger wasps/mud daubers and spider wasps. The paper wasps and yellowjackets are the only ones that seem aggressive, and they'll be removed from the shop this weekend. Be sure you have your medicine just in case, though!

I'll be laying out poison for the fire ants today and again on Monday where most people will be camping.

I see I'm on the who's commin list. I won't be able to make it. Stupid government thinks I owe them 2K cause they're not allowing me to claim my son (I have my kids 6 days a week) on my income tax for 2004.

Plus sales are slow lately.

Hi all - I kind of stumbled into this thread. I am recently new (again) to the SCA down in the Loch. I have quickly become an armour slut I have no idea if I would be any good at making it but I love it. Krag, funny but your name came up in an email conversation today - it was a good thing.
