What direction do I go to sand a satin finish on full arms?

I have some a o.k. arms that are shiny . I want to bring them down to a satin finish. I am not sure in what direction to go. Up or down..Can any one help me. Plus I am looking for a armouer that makes stainless steel armor. Thanks

I do stainless. A wire wheel or scotchbrite will take your armour down to a satin finish. Just make sure to keep it going in the same direction it looks nicer that way.

ever try "sand blast" at low pressure?

I like the what Matt said.... I use the scotch bright pads with sewing machine oil. "3-in-1" oil.
It is done by hand, use lots of pads because they wear out quick.
Bring your lunch because this will take all morning.
Pay attention to the grain and how the light plays across it, like SunTzu said, use that to your advantage.
In the end you will have the most beautiful satin finish you have ever seen.... Now it is easy maintenance... to refresh it, all you have to do is scrub it down with the green pads and a little oil. The oil helps to create the sheen. You can wipe the oil off after the maintenance.

Ps: Be careful of who you let handle your helm, some of dubious character seem to leave acid finger prints.
