Questions for Clang ,or any one who knows.... Re: Gauntlet P

Okay. I'm about done with my gaunt and had a dumb question for ya. I can't make out in the pictures what happens to the inside of the cuff where the two "bat wings" come around. Do they touch? Do you rivet them together? I would'nt think so. Thanks in advance.

Frederick The Heavy

I hate to answer this way, but it depends on which version of the patterns I sent out. Nowadays, I always round the ends of the "wings" and put a rivet in them-adds rigidity. In the old days, sometimes I jsut butted them together-in that case, the ends would be flat and not rounded.

If you have any other questions, you can email me. Hope this helps.

looks to me like the gaunts in the pic have a much longer cuff than than the pattern indicates, but I don't think that's relevant to the question.

What I do on the inside of the cuff on mine, is overlap and rivet it. You could also weld the seam. But some gaunts I've seen are left open by design on the inside of the cuff...bad idea for SCA combat, IMO.

Thanks guys. Yep it is the short cuff design. But its back the the jig saw for me any ways. Seems I did'nt up the pattern size and my gaunt is a little to small for my big hands! I need to make it about 10-15% bigger. How big are the squares in the pattern? So any one wanna by a small gauntlet??????? Just kidding. I'll most likely give it to a local member or the loaner pile. I have small hands and I printed them out big! They are fine if I don't want to pad them...or wear a glove!!

I am going to try that same pattern, and I was wondering what the scale is? How big is each square on that graph paper. If Clang could answer that, it would be a great help.
thanks in advance
