(In relation to the topic I posted about painted flutes and rolled edges)

I got bored with my armour just being black and wanted to add a bit of a flair to it. I started out by writing a motto that I got from the authenticity section of the forum "enemy to god, enemy to piety, enemy to pity" (in french) but decided that it wasnt enough, so I started painting the central ridge and edges on my sallet. THen I got brave and decided to do the rest of the armour. So far, I think it looks alot better than it did before, and makes it stand out alot more. The buckler probably wont be used in combat right away, I will save it for something important before using it. I started out with just the cross like I put on the armour, but elaborated because I was stuck at home all weekend while my truck was at the shop. I decided to write something about my lady in french, but its probably not correct french for period, but that doesnt really matter because I dont know anyone that can read it anyways.

I hope to have the bottom two bars of the sallet's bargrill cut off this weekend, and have a bevor put over it. It would make the armour look much better. I'll try and get a few pics of it all on me tonight at practice.

Wow! That looks good! Makes me want to start fighting again, just so I can paint up my armor and look really spiffy on the field... But then I'd have to rejoin the SCA.

Well, it sure looks cool to me. What do you wear on your legs?

I wear an old pair of milanese style legs, nothing too fancy. They just happened to be sitting in my shop rusting away, so I coated them with paint. I wear a long gown like tabard under my breast plate and arms armour, but it comes out under the faulds to cover the legs. Its mainly meant to be like I have no leg armour.

about the french on your buckler,the only part i dont know what you mean is "AU LAUREL"

if lorel is a person(im not familiar whit english name..),it should be "A LAUREL"

exept that,it sound perfect

Guillaume, thanks for the tip, I can probably change that. Laurel is indeed a person, I just didnt want to spell it the way I believe to be the french way, because she doesnt like it spelt(sp? ) like that. I will see if I can do some editing.

But then it has been to many years since I was in france.

Just as a comment (in case you weren't sure), you should feel free to actually include the pictures in your post. In this case, some of the pics were a bit large, and some people might not appreciate a set of 150KB files coming down their modem pipe, but maybe a single one (armourside.JPG ?) as a teaser?

Out of curiosity, why paint instead of blueing?

For one, painting was much easier than blueing, but also because blueing doesnt really do that great of a job against rust. I live right on the gulf of mexico, so if I leave bare metal out for two or three hours, it already has a light rust on it from all the salt in the air.
