Form fitted cuisses. Made my first one on the weekend.

Post by Mad Matt »

Well I got one of the greaves for the leg harness done on the weekend and after seeing the sexy curves in it I figured it just wouldn't look right to put a straight curved cuisse on the upper leg. So I made my first form fitting cuisse.

I'm really happy with the results. It looks sexy as hell and it's miles and miles better looking then a plain ol curved one.

One of the suprising things is that it wasn't all that difficult. Although my opinion is probably relative after making a fully enclosed fitted greave. It did take quite a while longer then a plain one. Most of that was because I had to planish the whole thing where I wouldn't normally have to.

I'll hopefully get some pics taken tonight. The upper leg is currently shaped except for the cuisse wrap plate and rolled edges and pieces range from 400-80 grit finish at the moment. Figured it'd be nice to put up some pics before they get blued and have brass trim and get assembled though.

Anyway this post is mainly to encourage anyone who's been thinking of making cuisses of any kind to try making them fitted. It makes a huge difference. Comparing them to a simple one I had around it's like night and day. It's pretty much just simple curving and dishing and planishing. Nothing someone who can dish a knee cop can't handle.
