Need Help: barbute back

Need help: Barbute back

Pullled the patttern down from the archive. Blew it up to exact proportions using an overhead projector.
After basic dishing of the brow line height and above, the top fits together well, all the way to the back where the dovetail starts.
I see no way to work the metal to where the bottom of two pieces could get close enough to be welded there. It seems like the pattern, instead of coming in should have gone out to produce the finsihed dovetail effect.
I can take this pattern and rework it using similiar techniques as a salet to produce what I think is the desired effect of a little dovetail in the back but I am just curious as to what is supposed to be the technique to get THIS pattern to match up...

I use something like this to form the back tail.

It is a little tricky... don't weld it up until it is formed.
Trim it to fit real nice.....

If your're using the pattern I'm thinking of, its the one I posted about 8 years ago. The back is meant to neck in. I've only made one helmet from the pattern. Here's a picture of me in it showing it in profile. I worked that part hot. If aything, I would add metal to the biottom part of the tail to allow more room to fine tune the final shap[e of the bottom rim of the helm. Good luck!
