Fun with HF throatless shear and a question

Post by Alberonn »

Just bought my new shear together - assembly involved putting in one bolt and bolting to a 2x6. Certainly cuts through 18 gauge like butter. Seems like cutting straight cuts will be effortless - has anyone had sucess with more complex curves? Just curious.

Though I've heard the quality of HF shears varies quite a bit between each one, i've been able to do some fairly complex curved cuts even on 14 gauge mild steel, so if you're working with 18 gauge (might want to mention if it's mild or stainless), i'm quite certain you should be able to pull it off, just don't try to force the machine (if it feels like it's resisting heavily, find another way to do it). You don't want to wind up chipping blades.

The "Good" HF blades will cut through 14 guage stainless.
