Well, we're working on a chapel de fer for a prize for the most honorable fighter in our last tournament. We're taking pictures as the helm goes together so that we'll have a record and that the next one will go faster...

The pattern is derived from the one shown in Brian Price's book. Although its not perfect, its close, and will only need some tweaking as far as we can tell...

There are a lot of problems still to work out. Proper fluting, removing hammer marks, etc, OVER dishing of the top peice (one of those problems when the 2d pattern does not tell you exactly what to do in 3d. Anyone, any comments or criticism welcome.

Looks good! When I helped work on a couple of kettle hats I tought that ridge was the hardest part of the whole damn hat.

Also more pics as progress has occurred. We have both side peices put together and we ran the top three peices through 120 grit, 320 grit, and medium clean compound (not sure which one that is). We'll rivet them together this week.

Well, last night my armour buddy came over, and after looking over the helm, we decided that we just didn't

a) like the lines of the two side peices
and
b) didn't think we'd planished the side peices well enough..

So we took them out, reshaped them, and then repolished them, and then re-photoed them.
