Rings for riveted chainmail

Post by Talhoffer »

I´m looking for high quality rings for riveting chainmail. No stainless or aluminium rings.

Does anyone know where I can buy such rings for a fair price?

Our rings are pre-flattened and pre-pierced to accept wedge rivets, too. We also sell the rivets and rivet setting tongs - everything you need to start weaving riveted maille right away. We also now carry solid rings and ready-to-rivet brass decorative rings as well.

Be sure to check out our starter kits, which come with 5000 rings, rivets, and tongs!

Thanks. I´m just gonna make some patches of chainmail and sew unto my arming doublet to protect exposed areas.

I would not even consider making a riveted hauberk. =)

It´s more authentic with riveted mail.

What you do, is you buy Steve's ready to rivet rings and The Ring Lords solid punched rings. This makes producing riveted maille much easier and faster than just 100% riveted rings.

Or you can see that Steve is offering solid rings too now....

He has a nice kit with both types of rings, or all riveted. Lots of choices for anyone who wants to make authentic mail.

Someday I will play with mail again....

I'm going to attempt to make some tools for rivetted mail this weekend.
If I were looking to buy rings, either of the above sources are reported to be excellent. :-)

I know he's offering solid rings too. But the price difference, I'm going with The Ring Lord. Unless Steve's solid rings are forge welded or something, I can't afford the difference.

Is there a way to get them smaller than 3/8" id?

I'm interested in 5/16th ID maille. Both ready to rivet rings and solid ones. I'm sure many other people are too.

Steve by the way can people order just a sleeve of maille? I know someone here who wants to get a sleeve of maille for a gladiator suit of armor.

Arland:

Sometimes, yes. We make skirts by chopping them of of spare shirts in stock, so usually I end up with the top part of a shirt (including sleeves). I had just such one until last weekend, when I chopped off one of the sleeves to make a ventail for someone. I still have the other sleeve/upper chest, though.

BTW I checked The Ring Lord's prices on punched 3/8" ID mild steel rings. His prices are amazing. $11.10 for 1390 rings works out to about $.008 per ring. That's less than our cost! We'll probably start buying them from him in quantity.

LOL that is really cheap. I hadn't really thought about it. I wondered about that.

I'll contact the individual and see if he still wants one.
