Sallet Identification Needed!

Post by Gerhard von Liebau »

Hello folks,

I have an image of a very nicely painted late-period sallet, and would like to know the information that is available on the helmet. Where is it, what's its origin, etc. The paint on it seems to resemble that on the Nikolaus VI harness dated to 1555. But, that's too late for a sallet like this, as far as I know. (Although, I do vaguely recall reading there was a "sallet" with the harness once, randomly, and being rather curious about what that meant.) Maybe this is it? Maybe not, though. I'd like it to be, because that'd be an awesome match!

Thanks!

-Gregory-

(EDIT: Sorry I said "paint." Thanks for the correction, Alcy. I should have assumed it was enamel, since I went through this a while back while talking about the Nikolaus harness!)

That isn't 'paint', it is cloissonne enamel, and it does appear (w/o looking in a book) to be very similar to the Nicholas harness.
