Greetings from Malta...

Hi everyone! I'm writing this from my hotel in Malta! I am right in the middle of the 3 day Seminar on the Conservation and Restoration of Arms and Armour, sponsored by the Royal Armouries in Leeds and the Pallace Armouries in Valletta. It has been an amazing 2 days so far. My presentation on riveted maille went very well and I feel was very well received. There have been many other excellent presentations, including one by Simon Metcalf on maille, and another very good one by David Edge concerning work at the Wallace Collection.
Today we toured the Pallace Armouries. It is quite amazing that there is anything left at all - this is basically an open-air museum with a tremendous amount of humid salt air constantly present. It is only the fact that most of the items are covered with laquer and oil that has preserved them. Nonetheless they have a fantastic array of 16th century arms and armour.

Boy Rub it in why don't you LOL. Seriously glad to hear you are having a good time.
Are you getting any pics while you are there and also are they letting you see the back side of the armour as well? Hard to find good pics of the strappings and rivet work.

Have fun Steve! Malta is fantastic! I was there two years ago for New Years. The museums are something else, eh? If you have any sightseeing time, spend a few hours wandering around Rabat or Mdina, both are incredible places. I belive Mdina also has a nice Roman museum. It has really well preserved mosiacs from a 2nd century villa.
Enjoy one the most relaxing spots on earth!

Well, I'm back. I'll post the pictures tonight.
London was great - went to Cantebury Cathedral and saw the sites, including the tomb of the Black Prince. Amazing to see in person what I had only seen in pictures.
Malta was excellent. Many high-powered figures there, and lots of excellent presentations.
