Does anyone have any helpful advice on how to use measurements to fit armour properly?
------------------
It could always be worse!
Using Measurements
Wrap cardboard around ________ (thing you want armoured). Cut out to fit general shape, and amount of coverage. Add a bit for padding. Finish pattern shape.
There, now you've got a well-sized pattern.
Or, if you wanna be tricky, measure yourself, measure the pattern, and make ratios. Get somebody else's measurements, apply the ratios, and voila, you've got a pattern for them.

I like to measure each area twice - and then add on an inch to all sides just in case. I think the extra inch may be a waste in some cases, but at least you're absolutely sure (pending some extreme discrepency) that you're armour is going to fit. Or as the old adage says: "Measure twice, cut once." Or is that backwards?
