This is for a buddy -

Need a SCA combat helm for a guy witha a Russian Persona say 12th - 15th century (I know, large time period, but I don't know exactly his persona) - 12 / 14g stainless preferred.

Anyone help out?

Sir Dilan

Irish:

A helm worn by a Russian is very little different from one worn by a person doing a Byzantine persona impression. Likely, you have a conical nasal-style helmet. But, as they say, “the devil is in the detailsâ€

Of the 3, who generally has the best turn-around for stainless?

Situation is, my buddy needs a heavier helm than he currently wears - and a nicer one. Image But I don't think he really wants to fight in his old helm for 12+ months, or stop fighting for that long....

He **might** be willing to pay a bit more for "express service".

Jeez, Irish...give a guy time to get home! Image

I have always had good luck with Icefalcon Armoury with quick turnaround time. Plus, his helmets are usually made with 13-gauge bowls and solid welds. And he's always willing to work with people on the Archive.

Thanks man -

My buddy had an eye problem due to "impact" - similar to boxers. Real minor, not enough to make him stop fighting, but he was a bit freaked. Then I recalled he is wearing an on 16g spun top helm. I figure something with more mass would help him, plus get that helm off the field..... Image

Egfroth is in Perth at the moment. He will be back on Monday.

try and isolate the time period a bit better or what you are really asking is "I need a russian flavoured SCA generi-helm".

If you can chase it down to a hundred years or so, then it means that people who keep their research materials neatly organised can just go to the relevent bits and scan them in. On the other hand, those of us that use the "I have a picture of one of those around the house...somewhere" model of information storage will be just as stuffed as ever.

Irish -- can' assist you with the armourer selection, but I would be happy to help with design details and whatnot, Russian helmets are my thing.

For starters, see http://www.geocities.com/kaganate/armour -- look in the helmdb and my article on helmets with Icons.

Haven't quite gone yet. Have a look at my site www.geocities.com/egfrothos/MyHelmets.html for the Russian helmet and the "Great Polish" helmet - both suitable, and fid the Red Kaganate website as well.

More when I get back.

Dilan - just a personal thing,
I would go with White Mountain.

Every thing I have ever gotten or seen from him is top of the line, prompt delivery and a work of art.

Adam has one of the best reps in the armouring community that I have ever seen.

While Ice falcons stuff is shiny and well made...its kind of generic looking, in my opinion...which is understandable in an off the shelf, sell from stock armoury.
Where as Adam will work hard to come as close to historical or what your friend wants as he can and still be SCA legal...

and the prices are around the same.

We're having a fighter practice with Waldryk in a few days, I can see if he'd wanna do it.

Have to agree with Sarnac here.

My deal with Adam had to be one of the smoothest transactions I ever made. Also every time I go out to fight I get all sorts of compliments on my helm Image
