small knight pattern needed

Post by peggalicous »

Hi,
I think this is about the coolest site I have been to ever!! I need help and hope that some one of you are able to find a moment to give me a hand. My daughter is 8 yrs old. She is in grade 4 and they are doing a study on midevil times. My daughter has been chosen to be a knight. How cool is that!! Along time ago i made a costume for my son out of bristal board, it was a free hand effort and turned out ok, but I am hopeing to find a more realistic pattern to make for my daughter. The only preferance she has is that it has a full face shield ( raisable) If you can help and dont find my recration from bristol board too offencive I would be greatly apreciative. thank you
Peggy

Well, I don't know what bristol board is but I think that a sugar loaf helm might work for what you want. If you check out the pattern archive on this site you can see two sugar loafs by Sinric, the second of which has a pivoting visor. You could probably ven use his patterns if you can get the bristol board to assume those shapes.

Broadly speaking, sugar loaf helmets were used from the end of the 13th cent into early 14th cent. They would have been worn with mail armor supplemented with plate defences on the joints and body- the later you go the more plate would be used.

Hope this helps

Also some acrylic paint "art type" White with a touch of blue gives a nice metal color. Do not make it even. More blue a few places gives it a outdoor look.
You can paint over masking tape too.
Have fun.
