Hello,
I am just beginning to make armour, chainmaille only at this time, and was wanting to get into making plate armour.
Where might a person find the material, or, WHAT KIND of material is needed to make such a thing?

How far are you from Johnson city? The folks at http://www.armourworks.com like to help people make their own armour in their shop on weekends. If you're not too far give them a call.
Otherwise Krag and a few others are in college station, Halberds is a little further north in Texas I forget where though. There's a crapload of armourers in Texas. Lots of them very friendly and helpfull.
Sorry I don't know where Mansfield is in relation to anywhere elce. Being about 5,000 miles away from Texas I'm not really up on the geography.

I used scrap computer cases for my first several armour creations. It was free and the thick, mild steel worked quite well. A few minutes with a wire brush wheel in my drill took the paint off when I was done forming. Cutting was easy with aviation snips. Now I know I like doing it an I will even spring for sheet steel on occasion.
